Alex Eylar, a 22-year-old screenwriting student and film buff in Oakland, Calif., owns more than 30,000 Lego pieces and uses them to recreate famous film scenes. He says he started collecting Legos when he was 5 and added to his collection until high school.

Eylar says he has seen about 1,627 films since 2001 and has them all listed so he can decide which scenes to build.

Eyler notes that he uses only available Lego pieces, never customizing them by painting or drawing on them. He builds all his scenes at a table in a corner of his living room, selecting pieces from five big plastic bureaus filled with Legos.

Eylar is studying for a master’s degree in screenwriting and says he’s “quite flattered” at how well people have responded to his Lego scenes.
